This superfine Millet Short Fibre Merino Batt is specifically designed for wet felting and fast felting. The extra-short fibres gives it the ability to felt FAST. You can even make a dry prefelt just by rubbing your hands together. The Millet Short Fibre Merino Batt can also be used in needle felting. Although it is a bit more expensiv than a merino roving or top, it lays out nicely and is easy to needle felt with all the fibres going in different directions.
Why use a Batt vs. Roving? It’s quicker to lay out projects with batts, as there are already several layers of fibres in different directions. It comes in many great colors for any project. The colors blend beautifully when you layer different colors over eachother.
This felting wool is great for designers and jewellery because of how tight the fibres felt and how smooth they are. This fibre is also great for making items that are close to the skin like slippers or hats because it is Merino it is still exceptionally soft.
The Merino is an economically influential breed of sheep prized for its wool. The breed origins are from Spain, but the modern Merino was domesticated in Australia. Today, Merinos are still regarded as having some of the finest and softest wool of any sheep. Poll Merinos have no horns (or very small stubs, known as scurs), and horned Merino rams have long, spiral horns which grow close to the head. Merino is body temperature regulating as well so it will keep you nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
